Kaylee & Eric
This is what building a workforce pipeline from local talent looks like! Brasfield & Gorrie have now started hosting two MHS high school interns through the Work-Based Learning - Youth Apprenticeship Program. Meet Kaylee an IB Career Pathway candidate in architecture. She is assigned to the Virtual Construction & Design department and Eric an engineering and computer science pathway student is assigned to a field project manager.
Both are in a paid hybrid position which will consist of in office/on-site and home.
Remeber catch the talent while in high school. Once our kids graduate they are out in the big wide world. At that point you have lost them. It's hard to connect and support their journey to a career when you can't connect.
Vanessa
Vanessa is a Honors Work-Based Learning student interning alongside of doctors and nurses at Specialty Orthopedics of Georgia. Vanessa is a Junior who is completing her Healthcare Career Pathway and has a genuine interest in this industry. During her time at the clinic she rotates between doctors, nurses and clinic managers who help her learn all aspects of the healthcare industry. Some of Vanessa’s tasks include; taking blood pressure, assisting patients to their exam room, sanitizing rooms prior to patients’ appointment, sorting medical records, observing doctors as they interact with patients, observing nurses as they chart and interact with patients and learning new medial terms as she interacts with medical professionals in the office. Her mentor states, “Vanessa is the epitome of what we hope for in an intern. She has exceeded all of our expectations since she has been with us.” Vanessa plans to continue her post-secondary education pursuing her dreams of working in the healthcare industry.
Jorge Banda
Jorge Banda is a Senior and is a first year student in the Honors Work-Based Learning Program. Jorge has completed the Sports Medicine Career Pathway and has a career interest in Athletic Training/Physical Therapy. He currently interns at Atlanta Rehabilitation & Performance Center where he is learning hands-on skills, observing Physical Therapist in action and assisting patients with warm-up exercises. Jorge’s mentor states, “ Jorge is a polite and respectful young man who takes initiative to do whatever is needed in the clinic. Excellent job so far!” Jorge is also a soccer athlete and has contributed his passion for sports to his career choice. He looks forward to continuing his education after high school by pursuing an athletic training/physical therapy degree in college.
Alex Ibarra
During his Senior year (Class of 2020), Alex Ibarra interned with Oakwood Tire to gain more mechanic skills. He worked 20+ hours a week in a non-paid internship in order to get his foot in the door and make a good impression.
Alex’s boss and President of Oakwood Tire, Mike Robertson, states the following, “Oakwood Tire is so thankful that Alex Ibarra was part of the Work-based Learning Program at Chestatee High school. When he was in school he came and worked very hard and was eager to learn. I told him to keep it up and we would let him work this summer. He did and now has become a very good employee for us at Oakwood Tire. Alex is continuing to learn more about the automotive industry . He has applied and been accepted to Lanier Tech in their auto mechanics program. His plans are to work here and go to school (which we are gladly providing a scholarship for). We at Oakwood Tire are very happy to have him as part of our team and are happy with the partnership we have with the high schools and with Work-based Learning. We are looking forward to hosting more interns in the future!”

Bryan Lopez
Bryan Lopez is a stellar WBL student in the Manufacturing pathway at Gainesville High School. Bryan is a junior in high school and works at Kubota. He starts his day at Kubota at 7:00 a.m. and returns to school at 11:30 a.m. After his school day he goes to soccer practice as an integral member of the GHS Varsity soccer team.Bryan also turns in all assignments and documentation always in a timely manner His employer at Kubota says, " Bryan has a great work ethic and is a team player. He follows directions well and is an asset to Kubota." Bryan enjoys working at Kubota and because of his job was able to purchase a car, which helped him tremendously.
